Bring home the fun! - How to create play areas for children at home

Keeping children entertained during the long summer holidays can be a challenge. If working from home or doing household chores, it isn’t always convenient to pop to the nearest park, water park or soft play centre. How can you keep your little ones safe and keep a watchful eye on them, by making your house fun!

Benefits of indoor play

Indoor fun and games can be beneficial. It’s a good way to bond with your child. It can get kids moving and boost social interactions. It encourages children to play independently while you get some jobs done. It can help to inspire a love of learning, all from the comfort of your own home.

Room for fun!

A child’s room is a good space for play. It’s out of the way so you won’t clutter up the downstairs and you can be as creative as you like too. A cabin bed too brings play and practicality to the bedroom, with plenty of room for storage. Cabin beds can be shaped in many designs including castles, cars, double decker buses and many more. A popular choice is a cabin bed with a slide down one side to create hours of fun play without leaving the bedroom.

Craft areas

As messy as craft time can get, it is still guaranteed to keep children entertained for hours. If you have the space, a dedicated craft area is a good idea. Once set up, you can control the mess – to a certain extent. You could use a utility room or part of the kitchen, with their handy wipe clean floors, and cover up the floor area well with a paint sheet. Giant paper creates a fun time. You can pin it to the wall and let the children go crazy with paint hand prints. Chalk walls are a popular addition to playrooms and bedrooms. Chalk doesn’t create too much mess and can be erased without too much work as well.

Outdoor Space

You don’t need a huge outdoor space to make it fun. Dens can be built anywhere with a few sheets and cushions, or you may want to invest in a permanent structure like a wooden play den or Wendy house. Sand and water pits offer endless garden fun, whatever the weather, and are a great addition to any outdoor space. If you have a bigger area available, you could consider investing in a swing or slide too.
